Greater Burlington is comprised of Burlington and West Burlington. The two are separate cities, but constitute one community with residents of either having access to the services and amenities of both. Burlington is home to approximately 25,464 people. It is located in Des Moines County. No matter what your age or interest is Burlington has something to offer you. From special events throughout the entire year, to unique independently owned shops, to breathtaking views of the Mississippi River. Burlington is a great place to live, visit and do business. Among local attractions are Catfish Bend Casino, Fun City , and Snake Alley. Local festivals include Steamboat Days, Des Moines County Fair, Heritage Days, Snake Alley Art Fair and Octoberfest on the River. Major industries that contribute towards Burlington’s economic growth are construction, educational services, health care and department and other general merchandise stores. Sixteen percent of residents age 25 and older have a bachelor’s or advanced college degree. Colleges/universities near Burlington are Western Illinois University, Iowa Wesleyan, and Southeastern Iowa Community College.
